Yelahanka
Yelahanka is one of the oldest areas in North Bangalore. It sits about 15 km from the city railway station. National Highway 44 links it to the rest of the city. This gives residents fast road access most days. The area goes back to 1537. Nadaprabhu Kempegowda I built a fort town here that year. That fort town later grew into modern Bangalore. People still talk about this history today. Locals split Yelahanka into two main parts. One is the old town near the lakes and temples. The other is Yelahanka New Town, built in the 1980s. Most people simply call this newer part NES. Yelahanka mixes old heritage with new growth. It has a major air force base and a long silk weaving history. It also has a fast growing housing market today.
